This is a very great video produced by Free the Slaves, an organization fighting against modern slavery. The video gives a basic overview of modern slavery and includes stories of slaves as well as strategies being employed to end slavery. The film is 10 minutes long.

David Batstone, founder of Not For Sale, talks about modern slavery with Hannah Storm on CBS News. He gives a great overview of slavery in the United States, including what to look for and what to do if you discover a case of slavery around you. It is a very concise video with lots of information packed into 11 minutes.

This is a video produced by the United Nations to increase awareness of human trafficking. These commercials are played in areas where slaves are often recruited, warning that the chance at a better life may not be what it appears. The video is only a minute long.



Feature Films


Trade is a movie about sex trafficking in the United States and Mexico. Part of the movie is in Spanish with English subtitles, but more than half is in English. Although a dramatization, the movie accurately portrays the abuse and violence that women in slavery more than often must endure. This movie is very emotionally moving, but it is not for the faint of heart.

Blood Diamond, starring Leonardo Dicaprio, tells the story of an African man who is forced into slavery while his son is forced to become a child soldier. It is set in the backdrop of the diamond industry, but it accurately portrays the type of slavery and abuse currently taking place in Uganda and Sudan. This movie focuses on forced labor and psychological slavery, issues that do not get as much coverage as sex slavery yet are still very prevalent.
